The Anatomy of Melancholy

The project Anatomy of Melancholy, financed by the Freiräume Programme of the Freiburg City Cultural Office, aims to find intermediate spaces on stage between so-called early music and new music.

The project combines the Freiburg ensembles Kompass Ensemble (new music) and Nexus Quartett (early music) in a sextet with two new works written for the ensemble - "Qin" by Shiwei Liu and "Heltum" by Chanyeong Seon, both composition students at the HfM Freiburg. In addition, works by, among others, C.P.E. Bach, Sophie Stone and Elizabeth Jaquet de la Guerre are performed. As a special guest, the Duo Intakt performs works by Isabel Pardo Spiess, Maximiliano Soto Mayorga and an Anonymous from the 14th century.

The ANATOMIE DER MELANCHOLIE Work Phase is financed through a public competition by the Freiburg Office of Culture.

Make a Donation!

Dear friends of Kompass Ensemble,

As you know, we are a self-managed project. The funding we receive from institutions such as the Office of Culture of the City covers less than 30% of the total costs of our ensemble.

Donations help us to finance the maintenance of our website, printing costs of scores, data management, transport of instruments and other similar expenses.

By making a donation you help us more than you can imagine! :-)

The INSEKTEN project could not exist without the selfless help of our teachers, friends and colleagues, especially:

- Sebastian Zuleta, without whose patience and support we would not have the recordings.
- Alexander Grebtschenko, Johannes Schoellhorn, Martin Bergande and the whole team of the Institute for New Music at the HfM Freiburg.
- Needless to mention all the composers who have worked with us
